We decided to live the “African” experience in Spain in just three days with a rented bike and an Italian guide who knows the area perfectly.
Here is our story and a small photo gallery, without filters, of this escape from the African charm but from the Spanish flavor, especially when to accompany our journey there is good wine, excellent cuisine and the comfort of an international hotel.
Not just “hard traks” then, but cuddles and caresses. It starts on Wednesday evening and in less than two hours we arrive in Valencia with its beautiful old town and always full of life, clear skies and spring temperatures even during the coldest winter months.
After the classic Valencian paella, we are in the bright lobby of the Valencia Congres hotel which is hosting our first night. Tomorrow morning we will have a full day, so everyone is going to bed!
Early in the morning and after a hearty breakfast, we are already in the garage getting our bikes. The motorcycle fleet we have available offers us a BMW F800 GS Touratech, some “specials” of the caliber of the Honda HRC Boano Marathon and a new F800 GS that runs like a ball of fire.
We start with the Teruel dirt tracks for over 200 kilometers: the views that follow are beautiful, accompanied by the sound of the wind when we turn off our bikes, Europe as we know it seems very far away. The lunch break is based on jamon serrano and fresh çerveza, a first approach to local specialties. It always starts strictly off-road between citrus-cultivated hills, crossing western-style canyons between indescribable landscapes. The traces sought over time with passion, dedication and professionalism by Paolo called “Ciap”, give us roads unknown to most, and emotions at every kilometer of dust and dirt roads.
The day flies, literally and almost regretfully we get back to the hotel. The well-deserved rest, the comfort of the hotel and the excellent dinner recharge us well for the following day. Paolo tells us that tomorrow will be tough, so a quick briefing on the stage that awaits us, the last sip of wine and everyone goes to bed.
The next morning the sun shines, a fantastic day to go riding. We are in February but the temperature is already high, with as much as 18 degrees at seven in the morning. Our destination is Requena, replicating yesterday with the hot “handcuff”, now we have the size of the bikes and the terrain. We devour the 250 kilometers of the itinerary that Paolo has designed. Not an uncertainty about the many crossroads encountered, the recent scouting of our guide and track updates have worked perfectly. Tired but satisfied by uncontaminated and spectacular landscapes, we park the bikes in the small historic square of Requena where the exhilarating welcome of Antonio and Anita, the owners of the hotel in which we will spend the evening, based on local specialties, and the night await us.
The next morning we set off again for Valencia with a busy route between roads and tracks of almost 300 kilometers that did not make us regret the recent experiences in Morocco. We are again immersed in nature and precisely within the Penyagolosa Natural Park, to then cross the Sierra of Mayabona, large spaces alternating with woods, with nature that explodes luxuriantly when we cross the Sierra de la Lastra.
Let’s spend another night in Valencia, among comfort, photos, videos, the desire to get back on the road. But tomorrow we return to Milan, satisfied and happy like children, especially because we know that with two hours of flight we can soon return to have fun in this playground for motorcyclists that only Spain can offer. Surely we will return together with Paolo Ciapessoni, owner of Off-Road Passion, who was impeccable in all phases of the experience, from the tracks to the guide, from support to assistance. Furthermore, arriving in Spain and having the beautiful and fun motorcycles of Fabio Lerede, owner of the Only Helmet rental, is really the icing on the cake, indeed, on the tortilla!
|FLY & RIDE: our review. We have traveled a lot and with our bikes it is always a pleasure until you have to: prepare the bike, think about the spare parts, make documents, insurance, book ships, embark … and then cruise by ship for hours. For this reason the fly & ride formula is becoming the increasingly winning solution. First because if you only have a few days available you can do very little, secondly because if on one hand it is more expensive, on the other it allows you to take a flight, with your bag, arrive and enjoy yourself without thinking of anything else. Also if it is true that your beloved bike stays at home, on the other hand you protect it from risks, wear and dust, enjoying to the utmost the journey and the bike you might want to try or you’ve always dreamed of as Only Helmet Specials, to feel almost like a “dakarian”.For more info: Only Helmet for rentals and tours by Paolo Ciapessoni from Offroad Passion.|
