Montemerano, a wonderful medieval borgo, is in the heart of Maremma few kilometers away from the Comune of Manciano and Saturnia hot springs.
Built on a hill and completely surrounded by three circles of walls, the town is a place where you can still breathe the air as if we lived in the Middle Ages: you can visit important buildings, a church, the fortress, the narrow streets and the peculiar square of the castle surrounded by stonehouses. We suggest a pleasant stroll in the center, between little squares and picturesque views with balconies full of flowers.
Located on the hills of the inland, Montemerano is a perfect place to start the exploration of the south and west area of Grosseto. From here you can easily reach the Bolsena Lake, the mount Amiata, the lagoon of Orbetello with its Feniglia and Giannella’s shores, and the headland Argentario. You can also visit the famous Val d’Orcia and Val d’Arbia in the land of Siena, the etruscan cities of Tuscania and Tarquinia, the archeological sites of Viterbo and the borgo of Saturnia, well known for its waters, rich in sulphur and believed to have health benefits.
