From Ancona to Recanati there are only 30 kilometers to ride but the short itinerary is wonderful between sea, nature and culture.
Going south, we first meet Monte Conero and its park and it should be a good idea to stay here for a few days. We suggest the SP1 of Conero starting in Ancona and crossing the natural park till Villaggio Taunus, where you can turn right towards first Castelfidardo and then Recanati. In summer the traffic is heavy but the road is worthy.
Monte Conero Park
Conero park is beautiful, overlooking the sea and on the top you will enjoy a spectacular view on the entire Riviera of Conero and its beaches, but also you can visit some remains of a Palaeolithic settlement. The Monte Conero massif (572 metres on the sea-level) is full of rock caves of a white limestone used to build houses. There are many things to see around: cities like Ancona, Camerano, Sirolo and Numana, signed trails characterized by an unique flora and fauna and the bay of Portonovo with its wild beaches, crystalline waters and historical gems like Santa Maria of Portonovo or the De Bosis’s Tower. Don’t miss the traditional tastes of the area, like the famous wine Rosso Conero, honey and olive oil. Foto monte Conero: di MassimilianoMorichi, Pixabay Libera per usi commerciali
Recanati – the borgo of Leopardi
From the music of our engines to the poetry of Leopardi. You have to visit Recanati starting from the XVIII century’s Leopardi Building, the home where the poet Giacomo is born, still habited by the descendants and located in the square that takes the name from a famous lyric of Giacomo “Il Sabato del Villaggio”. From here a signed trail leads to the mount Tabor, the Leopardi’s “ermo colle” to enjoy a beautiful landscape. Foto Recanati: di Claudio.stanco – Opera propria, CC BY-SA 4.0
Close to the Leopardi Building, you can admire the church of Sant’Agostino: the Bell Tower is the one mentioned in the poem “Passero solitario”. In the center, in square Leopardi, behind a monument dedicated to the poet, there is the Municipal Building with inside Museum Beniamino Gigli, a must see place: here costumes, pictures and personal belongings of the famous opera singer are on display. In Recanati we tested the cuisine of the restaurant/butcher shop “Poesia a tavola”: a cosy atmosphere and excellent traditional dishes. www.poesiaatavola.it.
