The pass of Mortirolo (1.852 m), a classic worthy trip on motorbike, also called the pass of the Foppa, connects Valtellina to val Camonica, thanks to the valley of Mortirolo, linking the province of Sondrio to the one of Brescia through Grosio and Monno.

The road is narrow and not busy because there is an easier and safer way, the pass of Aprica, to reach Bormio and the higher part of Valtellina coming from the area of Brescia or from Trentino.

In the April of 1945, during the second war world, was the setting of two important battles between the partisans and the german-fascist troops in retreat to Trentino. Foto By qwesy qwesy, CC BY 3.0

The north side, starting in Grosio, today is considered one of the most hard climbs of Europe together with Zoncolan and Angliru, and is a destination of pilgrimage for bikers. We suggest a stop at val Grosina, departing from the center of  Grosio, in Valtellina. Foto copertina Gabri80 CC BY-SA 3.0
