The Pass of Ghisallo, Bellagio, Pian del Tivano and the Larian Triangle of Como Lake: the classic routes perfect for a sunday tour, very close to Milan, Como, Lecco and Brianza.
You can start from different points so we will talk about the most beautiful sections and you can choose in what order they shoul be visited, starting from Como, Lecco or Milan.
The Pass of Ghisallo
It’s like a place of pilgrimage for cyclists and motorbikers also because it’s located in a spectacular scenery. The pass connects the Larian Triangle to the upper part of Valassina, in Lombardy, between the two southern branches of the Como Lake, just South of Bellagio. The summit is at an elevation of 750m above the sea level where there is a sanctuary, called Madonna of Ghisallo, home to the Patron Saint of Cyclists, but also of motorbikers. The church is a cycling museum and is worth a visit. From Canzo, we continue towards north among soft bends and a great difference in level that you will enjoy in the 20 kilometers of distance fom Bellagio. Ph By Massimo C. – Own work, CC BY-SA 4.0
Pian del Tivano
If you want to go beyond the Pass of Ghisallo, or to change the main route, there is Pian del Tivano, where a great state road, less traveled, connects the road to Ghisallo to the western branch of Como Lake reaching Nesso. From Canzo, after the comune of Asso, turn left and immerse yourself in an amazing wood and many playful bends till the Osservatorio Astronomico in Sormano. From here, the downhill starts and we stopped to try the bar-restaurant Sole, where we warmed up from the first fall chilly air thanks to delicious local dishes of salami, homemade pasta, polenta and meat, and a beautiful parking to look after our motorbike. The last part of the route to reach Nesso is really evocative: you can spot the Como Lake from above.
The Lakefront of the Larian Triangle
The road crosses the two branches of Como Lake connecting Lecco to Como. We suggest to follow the west direction, from Lecco to Como, to keep water and the landscape on your right and to stop often to take pictures of the landscape, but don’t forget to watch out for the traffic and for the not perfect road surface. In Bellagio, a relaxing place on the lake, be careful and try to avoid fines! For lunch we suggest to stop in Lezzeno at the “Ittiturismo da Abate pesce a palate”, where you can taste local dishes with fish of the lake but you should call before going to check if it’s open and the fish is fresh and just caught!
