Borghetto sul Mincio. An enchanted place between Veneto and Lombardy, rich of history, an ancient borgo of mills along a river.
We drove a section of the state road starting north in Peschiera del Garda and heading south, following the Mincio river. Arrived in Valeggio sul Mincio, you will be impressed by the vision, on the other side of the river, of a sort of painting: Borghetto. This little village in the Middle Ages was the main interest of different noble families, thanks to its strategic position. Foto by pcdazero, Pixabay Libera per usi commerciali.
From the Middle Ages we still have the melancholic ruins of a scenic bridge: it was used as a dam but when the area passed under the Venetian Republic’s dominion and Borghetto ended its political issues, many mills were built where the waters of Mincio River are very dashing.
The mills worked till the XX century for the grinding of wheat and rice husking: then they were transformed in hotels, typical restaurants and shops of artisans.
